Pierre Ambroise Richebourg - 1810-1875 - studied optics with Victor Chevalier and photography with Louis Daguerre; a technician, he published a few essays in the 1840s/1850s. At first produced daguerreotypes, then switched to the collodion process in the early 1850s. During the French Second Empire he received several high profile commissions (visit of Queen Victoria, 18456; baptism of Prince Louis Napoleon, 1856). His eclectic production included views of official buildings (Elysées Palace in 1864, Hôtel de ville, etc), and photographs of contemporary paintings; he also collaborated with the police, taking pictures of crime scenes and criminals. - British Museum
