Josef von Diveky

Josef von Divéky (1887-1951) was a Hungarian graphic artist, designer and illustrator. He created many postcards for the Wiener Werkstätte.

After attending a private art school, Divéky studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Alois Delug from 1905 to 1907 and at the Vienna School of Applied Arts from 1907 to 1910. Professionally, Divéky was a successful commercial artist in Vienna, Zurich, Brussels, and Budapest. From 1919 he lived in Switzerland, and from 1941 he taught at the Budapest School of Applied Arts. Divéky worked for the Wiener Werkstätte , as a designer for the glass chandelier company Lobmeyr , created bookplates , published in various magazines, and worked as a book illustrator.

In 1937, his etching Fields of the Blessed was demonstrably confiscated and destroyed from the Weimar Castle Museum as part of the Nazi campaign against "Degenerate Art".
