Harold Gilman

Harold Gilman (1876–1919) was part of the Camden Town Group. Despite dying at the age of forty-three in 1919, Gilman made a lasting impact on the British art world at the beginning of the twentieth century.

His paintings infused scenes of everyday domestic life with a vigour influenced by Vincent van Gogh and Edouard Vuillard. His intimate depictions of domestic interiors captured a moment in time around the First World War when perceptions of gender, class and urban living were rapidly changing.
