Clarence Frederick Underwood. 1895–1910. Born in Jamestown, New York, Underwood studied at the Art Students League and the Academy of Julian in Paris with J. P. Laurens, Constant and Bouguereau, in 1896. Returned around 1901/02 to work illustrating postcards, books, and magazines, including the Saturday Evening Post.
